Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: sure, i can't think of why not! they don't really exist in his canon, so he'll probably think you're using magic orrrr that you're a demon/spirit. both will likely be met with distrust.

Warnings: Cullen's backstory involves him being tortured, both mentally and physically as well as possibly sexually. It also includes a time in his life where the place that he was stationed allowed the assault, rape, abuse, and forced lobotomization of mages, which he turned a blind eye to. He's also a recovering drug addict and will be struggling with withdrawal. He suffers from PTSD both regarding what's happened to him and what he's done to others or seen done to others.
His canon also deals heavily with slavery and religion. There's always the potential for either to come up but religion in particular has a good chance of sneaking into conversation as Cullen is an ex-Templar -a soldier for the Chantry, which is Dragon Age's religious organization- whose faith, though mostly broken and definitely on thin ice, still remains. Don't worry, this definitely doesn't mean he'll be attempting to convert anyone or preach about the world's evils, but he does pray and there will be plenty of 'Maker's breath's uttered.
